common myths:

Myth: Lifting weights will make me bulky

Truth: Women have genetically a smaller body than males which is extremely difficult for women to gain as much muscle as men due to the smaller quantity of testosterone in the female body, which prevents women from adding muscle mass as quickly as men

Myth: High repetition programs using light weight are the best for women

Truth: When training for muscle hypertrophy (increasing muscles size) you should be working @70-80% of your 1 rep max for 6-12 reps

Myth: You need cardio to lose weight

Truth: When you strength train, your muscles are broken down, and then rebuilt over the next 24-48 hours. While your body is rebuilding those muscles, its recruiting more calories and energy to make the process happen (generally referred to as the after burn effect) What this means is that your metabolism operates at a faster level even while you’re sitting on the couch after a workout

Myth: Men and women should train differently

Truth: There is no reason men & women should train differently.

Myth: Older Women shouldn’t strength train

WRONG WRONG WRONG

Truth: That is the PERFECT time to strength train! Studies have been shown that in post-menopausal women, strength training preserved bone density while improving muscle mass, strength, and balance.

It’s never too late to start add a strength training program into your daily routine. Start reaping the benefits today!
